Beginners Questions • Set Cinnamon as default desktop?

IMHO, this is a bad plan. If you want to switch desktops, reinstall. If you want both, dual boot with a shared data partition. Dual desktops in the same installation creates conflicts. For example, Gnome and Cinnamon use different display managers (GDM vs LightDM) and window managers (Wayland vs X11). If you insist on doing it anyway, (a) have a good system backup, so you can roll back to the status quo if things don't work out; (b) do some internet research (there are plenty of articles). A quick test in a virtual machine didn't go well for me, but perhaps better research will produce a better outcome.

Edit: Got the VM to work by editing /etc/gdm3/daemon.conf (here + here). Does that give you an idea of what you're up against?
