I know this was solved by reinstalling, but this happened to me as well and it was a pretty easy fix. The problem in my case is that the wireless network interface had a different name in the installed OS than it did in the installer. After installation, the interface was named wlp8s0, but the configuration files still referred to the prior name. I don't recall exactly what it was, but it was wlan0 or something like that. The solution was to change the name of the interface in the /etc/network/interfaces file. The connection can also be reconfigured using network-manager if you have that installed.
