100% agree: this is a workaround, NOT a solution.
I've just done a 12.9 install, and it begs the question as to why the install process hasn't been fixed! After all, I am to understand 12.9 is a bug fix of 12.8.
So running a basic install (no graphics environment, from WiFi, iso on a flash-drive) the still comes up with the useless cdrom line and none of the internet debian.org sources.
Then manually installing from the Debian repo I lose the WiFi? Really? Err... come on!
