Edit: I did discover the display server selection in the lower left of the login screen, and was able to select X11 and get a successful login to desktop. Does this mean I'll be stuck with X11 if I want to use nVidia video acceleration and CUDA drivers (I've been running BOINC for many years).
I could never get KDE/Wayland/Nvidia to work so always use X11 which works well. Acceleration works fine and AFAIK CUDA should also.
KDE devs are working diligently on Wayland support but apparently it still depends on some future Nvidia driver support as well.
I've seen some reports of people adding the Nvidia CUDA dev repos and installing nvidia-driver 565.x but that's the wild west and hard to find support (certainly not here) if it goes tits up. Do a full system backup if you want to try that so you can restore if needed.
