Hello!
I have a Thinkpad X200 (pretty old I know, but I like it), with Debian GNU/Linux 12 (bookworm), and I'd like to put a custom firmware on it. Partly so I may change the wifi card, but also just because I've heard it was one of the computers that has been compatible with coreboot/libreboot for a long time, and going to a next level of free software seems nice.
My first question was about my options: I'm mostly looking at Libreboot and GNU-Boot, but I'm also open to other suggestions. I've heard of the dispute that caused the Libreboot programmer to leave the FSF, causing in turn the FSF to fork it as GNU Boot, plus the fact that LibreBoot then started including some non-free software.
Does the difference matter on a device that predates the split, or would I find them identical?
Will either (or both) cause incompatibility on some peripherals, or create other bugs? Will they lift the whitelist rule from the firmware that keeps most wifi cards from working?
And finally, a more technical question: I've seen Libreboot includes GRUB in it. Will it cause conflict if I already have GRUB?
Thank you in advance.
I apologize if I posted on the wrong channel (I hesitated between here or in the "hardware" section, or even in the "newbies" section.
