What's your threat model? Self encrypting drives can be a easily decrypted by an attacker if they have physical access to a running system where the disk is unlocked. They can simply disconnect the sata cable and connect it to their own USB adapter, as long as they don't disconnect the power cable the drive stays unlocked.
