The message quoted above is from the Calamares installer:

It is shown when the installer detects that it is running in a computer booted in BIOS/legacy mode (not booted in EFI mode).

So your computer was booted in BIOS/legacy mode before Debian installation.

Furthermore, the Calamares installer is used by the Debian Live ISO, so you are not running the official Debian ISO installer, which can be downloaded here:
