I had a moment;
I loaded a virgin amd64_xfce_bookworm-bb_2432_archive.qcow2 into a generic vm. Fired up into the user and started synaptic. Ask for chromium and it added 10 packages with a 71MB download that ballooned to 255MB. I then closed synaptic and checked the menu and under 'Internet' and there was 'Chromium Web Browser' - so I clicked it, and was greeted with a duck duck go start page. No issue found. Never needed it, seems quick. Maybe I'll give it an audit and see how I like it...
More, that image has a functional root desktop, so on tty2 I logged in as root and startx'd my way into its desktop. There the menu showed 'Internet'>'Web Browser' with the chromium icon. I clicked it. Nothing happened. No expectation, so no issue found. I exited and flipped back to the normal user, fired up chromium and checked the 'Latest News' bookmark which is https://www.debian.org/News/. Nice.
