Do you unmount the external SSD before shutting down the computer ?
I am booting the Debian operating system from this external SSD, so the operating system unmounts the partitions before shutting down the computer.
Did you try to unmount it manually before shutting down the operating system? If yes, what is the effect on the SSD's "POR Recovery Count" ?
hdparm -y ...
Where should I put this command? In custom systemd service or in /lib/systemd/system-shutdown/ or ...?
If you unmount it manually, you can test the hdparm command after unmounting the SSD and check the effect on the SSD's POR Recovery Count.

Hope this helps.
