General Questions • Post bookworm update issue

I have an older 32bit system that I recently upgraded from Bullseye to Bookworm using the guidelines on Debian.org . Post-upgrade I'm finding some WebKit-based browsers as well as the Tor Browser updater are fail silently. Most everything else appears to work as expected. My investigation turned up a reply (on stackoverflow.com IIRC) saying that libwebkit2gtk might fail to update if a browser is running during bulleseye -> bookworm upgrade. I don't think I did but I can be 100% sure; there are lots of things that use libwebkit2gtk. For example, running surf "<test_rl>" (minimal browser from suckless.org) throws a few typical errors then fails silently, while zenity --text-info --html --url="<test_url>" works; both use libwebkit2gtk-4.1-0. Tor Browser (Gecko-based) itself works (slowly) but the updater fails silently as soon as the incremental update .mar file is downloaded.

To rule out hardware issues being the culprit I swapped the hard drives and did a fresh Bookworm install; no problems with any of the forementioned applications. Similarly with my VM instance, so I think something went sideways with my Bullseye-to-Bookworm upgrade. My plan is to do a fresh install but I thought I'd post here on the odd chance somebody has a fit without said re-install.
