Usually an appimage need to be manual marked as executable.
I am in the habit of placing appimages in usr/local/bin, mark them as executable, then create a link to the original with a simplified name. Then if any menu entries or custom actions are user created with the simplified name there is no need for future edits. When the appimage is upgraded and the name slightly changes, just create a new link to the simplified name.
